Coach Luann Grybowski (Coach G) became the newest member of the 700 club this season. She is only the 3rd coach in WPIAL history to achieve this feat. Coach G is also the winningest public school girls or boys coach in WPIAL history. In 42 seasons, her overall record is 714-269. She began her career teaching and coaching at Shenango High School in 19979, where she was Head Coach for basketball, cross country, track & field and assistant in gymnastics. She left Shenango with a record of 61-46 and 2 Section Titles to coach at her Alma Mater, New Castle High School in 1985. At New Castle she posted an 80-23 record before being laid off from her teaching position.This led her to a teaching and coaching position at Aliquippa High School from 1990-1994, where she was the Head Softball and Basketball Coach. She left Aliquippa with a record of 51-18.
Coach G found her way back to New Castle after being called back to her teaching position in 1994 where she remained until 2010. She brought home the first Girls Basketball WPIAL Championship to Lawrence County in 2004, and again in 2007 & 2009. She won titles in both AAAA and AAA along with 5 Section Championships titles before leaving to coach her daughter Tayler, where she took over the Jr High as well as high school programs at Neshannock. In her 13 seasons at Neshannock her record is 241-83. She led the program to its first WPIAL championship appearance in 2017, finishing as runner-up. In 2019 her team won the AAA WPIAL Championship, and in 2021-2022 won back to back AA titles. Coach Grybowski coached teams have made 20 appearances in the PIAA state tournament. The most successful years being at Neshannock where her teams competed in state play-offs 7 years with the most amazing and magical seasons being the past 2. Neshannock appeared int the past two AA state championship games, finishing as Runner-up in 2021 to Mt Carmel. This season Coah G brought the PIAA AA State Championship back to Neshannock Township and Lawrence County, the first ever for Lawrence County. In her time with the Lancers, she has 9 section titles, 6 consecutive 2014-2019 and back to back in 2021-2022, 3 WPIAL titles, 1 runner-up, 1 state Runner-up and 1 state championship. It certainly has been a very successful last two years and a very enjoyable 42, and looking forward to year 43.
