Chris Mele

Hickory High School

Coach Mele just completed his 3rd year as the Hickory High School Boys Basketball Coach.  Hickory competes in District 10 in the AAAA Division.  The Hornets won the District 10 Title this year for the second year in a row and the first back to back titles at Hickory since the 1950’s.

The Hornets reached the PIAA Quarterfinals but did not get a chance to play the game because of the statewide shutdown due to the coronavirus.  Hickory finished the season with a record of 23-4 and the Hornets have compiled a 3- year record of 71-12 under the direction of Coach Mele.

Mele credits his assistant coaches, Jeanette Whitehead, Marco Miller, Gary Swanson and Jon Walsh for helping create a winning culture at Hickory.

Before arriving at Hickory, Mele was the Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Kennedy Catholic High School and led the Golden Eagles to 4 consecutive District 10 Championships and an overall record of 92-12.

Chris and his wife Michelle live in Hermitage and have 4 children, 2 of which (Tyler and Peyton Mele) play on Hickory’s basketball team.
